About Me

I’m Tad Roberts, and I’ve been a type 1 diabetic for over two decades. I was diagnosed at the age of 24, and like many newly-diagnosed diabetics, I thought my life was over. I mean, what quality of life was I going to have being controlled every minute of every day by an incurable disease? Diabetes was just another blow to add to the misery of a rough childhood, being raised in a religious cult, and a life that had been in bad need of purpose since then. I was completely lost and without hope, and I fell into a severe depression. Diabetes almost ended up being the end of me.

Then, by some miracle of fate, divine intervention, or a little luck – call it what you will – one good decision and one amazing piece of news changed the entire course of my destiny. My perspective of diabetes changed and my vision of the future completely transformed. Over the years, I learned to keep my blood sugar levels under excellent control through good diet, exercise, and a strong self-awareness of what’s going on inside my body. But perhaps the greatest reward that came my way was a self-confidence I’d never had and a belief in my ability to effect positive change in my life.

Now, 24 years later, I have a wonderful wife, 5 amazing children, and a life that is about as beautiful as one could imagine. My A1c’s are in the low 6’s, and I live every day from the perspective that diabetes doesn’t control me — I control it.

I know that many of you visiting this blog-site haven’t reached that happy place in your own lives yet. Ultimately, that’s what I want for you. I want you to find the beautiful life that awaits when you reach the point where diabetes is no longer a lifelong battle, but rather, a manageable challenge. That’s what this diabetes blog is dedicated to — your success!
